Microsoft recently unveiled the Windows 11 Operating System with a wide range of features and improved design. Now the company has come forward detailing the improvement in the security of Windows 11 over its predecessor in a blog post. It has upped the security baselines with new hardware security requirements, hardware-based isolation, proven encryption, and improved protection against malware.
Microsoft claims that users will be protected from advanced attacks out of the box as all WIndows 11 running machines will fit in a TPM 2.0 hardware chip which will protect user data such as encryption keys, credentials, with a hardware block preventing hackers or malware from accessing them or tampering with them.
According to Microsoft, TPM 2.0 will boost upgrade the standard of hardware security with the help of a built-in root-of-trust. This built-in root-of-trust will protect machines from attacks like ransomware or from even those attacks from nation-states. Along with TPM 2.0, Windows Hello and BitLocker will offer protection from identity and data theft. For the enterprise customers, Microsoft offers Zero Trust security which looks after the health of Windows running devices.
The OS also supports Azure-based Microsoft Azure Attestation (MAA) which holds the hardware-based Zero Trust as the first line of defence. This helps protect the user data when they access data from the Cloud. With Windows 11 Microsoft will help users :
- Get Rid of Passwords: With the help of Windows Hello, users can forget about passwords from the first boot and for enterprise the deploy-to-run state can be achieved in a jiffy with the help of a simplified passwordless deployment model. It shares the granular control with IT admins and protect identity and data while communicating with Cloud.
- Security and productivity in one:Â The newly added features will work in the background without weighing down on the performance or experience aspect of the devices. With the Windows 11 Certified devices, you will get a strong foundation of security.
- Comprehensive security and compliance: Microsoft Azure Attestation offers trust via attestation. This is the basis of compliance policies organizations can depend upon to develop an understanding of their true security posture. It will validate the identity and platform used by the OS forming a backbone to the Zero Trust and Conditional Access workflows and safeguard corporate resources.
