After taking the lion’s share as per the recent statistics, MediaTek is aiming at the flagship processor territory to overthrow Qualcomm with their Dimensity Series. As part of that strategy, the company has unveiled two new entries into the list, Dimensity 1200 and Dimensity 1100 5G.
These SoCs share the same nodal architecture and pack powerful AI capabilities for the camera, superior 5G connectivity. In addition, it can support the 200 MP cameras coming from Samsung later this year. Most Chinese OEMs have come forward announcing that they are working on smartphones with the latest chipsets. Let us check out these mobile processor’s specifications in detail.
MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC
The MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC will be manufactured by TSMC and will be based on a 6nm nodal architecture. It will pack a total of 8 cores with one Cortex-A78 Core clocked at a whopping 3.0GHz and the rest three will be clocked at about 2.6GHz. The remaining 4 cores will be set at a clock speed of 2.0GHz. This processor core layout will be complemented by ARM Mali G79 MC9 GPU. Speaking of memory, it will support up to UFS 3.1 storage and up to LPDDR4x RAM at 2133MHz.
Coming to the optics, it will support a single 200MP camera sensor or a combination of 32+16Mp camera sensors. The video recording capabilities can be extended up to 4K resolution with 60fps. When it comes to displaying, OEMs can fit in Quad HD displays with a 90Hz refresh rate or Full HD displays at up to 160Hz. Regarding the connectivity options, the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 comes with 5G in Sub-6GHz flavor with Dual-Sim Dual Standby support, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and so on.
MediaTek 1100 5G SoC
The MediaTek Dimensity 1000 SoC will be manufactured by TSMC and will be based on 6nm nodal architecture, just like the Dimensity 1200. However, when it comes to the processor core arrangement it will have an octa-core setup with 4x ARM Cortex-A78 cores at 2.6GHz and another 4x Cortex-A55 cores capable of clocking up to 2.0GHz. It will be accompanied by a slightly less powered ARM Mali G77 MC9 GPU. However, the memory support will be identical to Dimensity 1200.
Focusing on the camera department, it will support up to a 108MP camera sensor or dual cameras in the mixture of 32+16MP. Like its brother, Dimensity 1000 can facilitate the shooting of 10-bit 4K videos at 60fps. The display quality is almost consistent as it supports up to Quad HD resolution with 90Hz or Full HD displays with 144Hz refresh rate. And as expected the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 comes with 5G in Sub-6GHz flavor with Dual-Sim Dual Standby support, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.2.
Both chipsets offer the in-house developed Networking Engine 3.0, Rapid Response Engine 3.0, and Resource Management Engine 3.0. Besides, the Dimensity 1200 supports PQ Engine 3.0, ray tracing in mobile and Augmented Reality (AR).
Soon after the announcement, among other Chinese OEMs like Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi a press release came from Realme who declared that they will be bringing one of the first flagships with Dimensity 1200. According to a source, this device will be the upcoming Realme X9 Pro. We expect smartphone companies to launch phones powered by the newly announced Dimensity SoCs by the end of this quarter.
