In 2019 so far, from mid-range Redmi Note 7 Pro to flagship OnePlus 7 Pro, the 48MP Sony IMX 586 camera sensor is used by almost all major smartphone brands. This is so far one of the best camera sensor by Sony for budget flagships and mid-range smartphones. But seems like 48MP is too common now and OEMs are moving towards massive 64MP camera sensor.
Recently RealMe announced that they will launch a smartphone with 64MP primary camera sensor on 8th August in India. Now Redmi has also announced that they will showcase their implementation of 64MP Samsung ISOCELL GW1 sensor on 7th August. This is a day before RealMe’s event. There are chances that Xiaomi might announce a smartphone with same sensor at the event, and that might be Redmi’s first quad camera smartphone.
If you recall last week MediaTek announced their new CPU, Helio G90T. That CPU has support for 64MP sensor on quad camera setup. And at the event Manu Jain (Redmi India’s Managing Director), announced that they will launch a new smartphone with this new CPU soon in India. So maybe this is what he is talking about and Redmi will launch a gaming mid-range smartphone with 64MP sensor.
So that’s all the information we have as of now. What are your thoughts and expectations from this 64MP technology? Let us know in the comment section below. Also stay tuned with us for more information.
