In 2016 we saw many great smartphones from entry level to flagship. Well as we saw some great and successful smartphones, there are some controversial smartphones as well. But I think we should now look at those smartphones which are going to launch this year with some very interesting excitement. So we are now listing TechnogBugg’s Top 5 smartphones of 2017 here. So let’s have a look at those:
In 2016 Samsung did a very great job with Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge. In terms of design, performance, software, display & especially camera, S7 / S7 edge has exceeded in all these category last year. It has the best smartphone camera at the time of launch and even now it’s one of the best camera smartphone. But Samsung’s image got a wrong turn with another flagship, Galaxy Note 7. I will talk about that in the later part of this article. But now everyone’s expectations are very high with Galaxy S8, everyone is curious to see what will Samsung do with Galaxy S8. If Samsung will not win people’s attraction towards Galaxy S8, Samsung will have a huge loss of Goodwill in the industry. Talking about the S8, Samsung will ditch the physical home button and capacitive button as well. The fingerprint sensor may be present at the screen itself, you just have to place your finger at the bottom of the screen to unlock the device. Under the hood this phone may be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor based on 10nm manufacturing process. This time Samsung may also use edge display on the regular Galaxy S8. So the S8 Plus may only have difference of screen size and battery. There’s another rumour that Galaxy S8 Plus may have S-Pen just like the Note series and Samsung will ditch the Note series than. The side bezels are almost seems like bezel less. So it will be pretty exciting to see what will Samsung do with S8 & can the save there Goodwill in the industry ? Well for these questions we have to wait till February end or March. As that’s the time period when Samsung will launch Galaxy S8/S8 Plus.
2. Samsung Galaxy Note 7:
Samsung launched Another Flagship of their Note series, ‘Galaxy Note 7’. It was a very good phone at the time of the launch with very decent specs, end user experience and the features of S-pen. But the phone also became one of the biggest disaster for Samsung because of the battery exploding issue that you all know. Samsung even replaced all the Note 7 units with new one but that also had the battery exploding issue. So Samsung has to recall all the units and have to close the manufacturing of Note 7. Now this year Samsung has to overcome with Note 8 to save the Goodwill of Samsung in the industry and to save the Note series as well. Because Samsung is the only company which has S-pen with that much features. Currently it’s too early for rumours of Note 7 to come but some features like processor, On screen buttons and fingerprint sensor below the screen may be there same as Galaxy S8. So I think this year is the high time for Samsung to save it’s Goodwill in the industry. Generally Note device launches in 3rd quarter of the year. So there’s so much time in between. And as I talked earlier that Samsung may skip the Note series by Putting S-Pen in Galaxy S8 Plus. So let’s just wait and watch will they continue the Note series. If yes, how will the implement it?
3. Nokia 8:
Earlier before the smartphones, everyone’s 1st choice and many people’s only choice for feature mobile phone was ‘Nokia’. Nokia has set his brand value very strong at that time. But when smartphones arrived in the industry, Nokia choose to go with windows rather than Android. And this decision led down the company that they have to sell it to the Microsoft and later shut down. People are missing those Nokia phones with very sturdy build, great battery life and best customer service. Now this year Nokia is also making a comeback in the smartphone industry, and this time with Android OS. So finally people can refresh there old memories with the Nokia smartphones. But one thing that should be there in the mind that by brand Nokia is making a comeback, not technically. As HMD Global has bought the right if the Nokia brand name and they will make phones under the Nokia branding. So it’s the big question that can HMD Global will make phones like the older Nokia or it will be just the branding of Nokia. By the way currently Nokia launched it’s midrange phone Nokia 6 and now rumours are getting strong towards the flagship Nokia 8. Rumours are there that Nokia will launch around 6-7 smartphones this year. One phone is official and now we only have leaks about Nokia 8 that’s going to launch in MWC 2017 in late February. Rumoured specs of Nokia 8 that are the highlighting factor are Snapdragon 835 processor and Carl Zeiss camera. Apart from these two other specs are common, you can read about them here. So it will be interesting and exciting to see what will HMD Global will do with Nokia. Will they do justice with the brand or they will just use the brand name and image just for profit. Will we get the insane battery life, sturdy build and great customer service. We have to wait and watch until February end.
4. Apple iPhone 8/8 Plus:
Last year Apple released iPhone 7 and 7 Plus that was a very good iPhone, the Plus model is especially good in camera. The dual camera setup in iPhone 7 Plus is very great and practical. The Apple A10 fusion processor under both phones are one of the most fastest processors among all the flagship smartphone processor. But Apple this time removed the headphone jack from both iPhones and used there proprietary lightning port for headphone connectivity. Maybe this decision was not that good for Apple has Apple has to face loss in 2016 because of iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Now talking about the iPhone 8 there are not much rumours about that but one rumour is there that Apple may use Samsung’s OLED display this time. And it’s The 10th Anniversary of iPhone to be released this year. First iPhone was launched in 2007. So there are many expectations from Apple that they will do something new for iPhone like bigger battery, fast charging and wireless charging. Apple generally launch new iPhone in September so there’s a lot of time between. So we have to wait & watch what will happen.
5. OnePlus 5:
Last year OnePlus launched OnePlus 3 and it became one of the most successful and best value for money smartphone. It’s truly the cheapest Flagship of 2016. With Snapdragon 820 processor, 6GB RAM, Dash Charging technology and Oxygen OS, OnePlus 3 became one of the smoothest and best performance device, even better than many flagships. Only phones which are giving tough competition to OnePlus 3 are Google Pixel and iPhone 7 / 7 Plus. OnePlus later launched an upgrade version of OnePlus 3, the OnePlus 3T. There are some minor improvements in OnePlus 3T over the OnePlus 3. But now it’s 2017 and many people are waiting for OnePlus’s next flagship that is OnePlus 5. Wait, OnePlus 5 ? It should be OnePlus 4, right ? But most probably it’s going to be called OnePlus 5 because number 4 is unlucky in China. So the rumoured specs are 5.5” Optic AMOLED display, it’s 50-50 whether it will be Full HD or 2k, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB or 8GB RAM, 4000mah battery, Dual camera setup and front facing stereo speakers. We may see a improved dash charging system in OnePlus 5. So we it’s exciting to see whether OnePlus will maintain the fame that they got with OnePlus 3 or they will loose it, because earlier also same thing happened with OnePlus. The OnePlus One was a very excellent phone but OnePlus 2 was not that great. So let’s see what will happen. OnePlus 5 will most probably be launching on May or June.
