We are hearing about the WhatsApp Payments service from last year and the developer of WhatsApp started to test the Payments service in India from February this year. Well, now the government of India has directed that the company need to setup office in the country before rolling out the service.
According to the source, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has asked the Facebook-owned WhatsApp to set up its office in India before launching the payments service in the country. The demand hasn’t finished, as the ministry has also asked the messaging company to recruit a local team which can be held accountable in case of any dispute on payments.
However, there’s no word from the instant messaging about the office in the country, but the company has confirmed that it’s hiring for two leadership positions– India Head and Head of Policy.
