If you recall back in 2016 Xiaomi launched their first laptops named as Mi Notebook Air in two different sized variants. Those were very good laptops considering the price they are offering them. But that was indeed a notebook and obviously not a perfect choice for gamers. Now today, along with Mi Mix 2s and Mi AI Speaker, Xiaomi also launched their 1st Gaming Laptop that’s named as Mi Gaming Laptop. Now let’s have a look what this gaming beast will pack inside.
This Gaming Laptop has different configuration variants, it comes with either Intel 7th Gen i5-7300 HQ quad core or i7-7700 HQ quad core processor inside. The i5 variant comes with 8GB of RAM and 4GB of Nvidia GTX 1050Ti GPU, whereas the i7 variant comes with 16GB of RAM and 6GB if Nvidia GTX 1060 GPU. It has 1TB of HDD capacity along with either 128GB & 256GB of SSD, for core i5 & i7 processors, respectively. This laptop sports a 15.6 inch Full HD display with 1920 x 1080 resolution. This display is an anti-glare display with 178-degree wide viewing angles and 300 nits of brightness. It comes with inbuilt Windows 10 Home Edition. The battery is a 55W battery that sounds decent for a gaming laptop, not too good. It has a reasonably low 1MP camera for video chat (very tough to do). And it has Dolby sound and Hi-Res audio support.
Talking about the built quality, it has a solid built quality, expected from a gaming device. The overall design language of this laptop is simple and clean. The keyboard is a backlit keyboard with 16M colours. Xiaomi has also given 5 customizable hotkeys to perform important tasks at a single click. Company says that this laptop has a good quality cooling system which will not let the laptop heat too much even with heavy gaming. They provided a hotkey for enabling ‘Turbo Cooling’ as well. But maybe due to this cooling systems, the laptop weights a bit more at 2.7kgs , not one of the heaviest but certainly not light. Speaking about connectivity options, this Gaming Laptop has WiFi, Bluetooth, 4x USB 3.0 ports, 1x USB C port, 1x HDMI 2.0 port, 1x 3 in 1 card slot, 1x Ethernet port, and 1x 3.5mm headphone jack.

So that’s all the information we have as of now. Personally speaking, these laptops sounds very interesting especially if we look at their prices. These laptops are somewhat cheap as compared to their competitors. But the areas where this laptop might not stand out like a beast are in terms of battery life and thermal/heating control. Don’t get me wrong the battery capacity is decent but I was it to be around 70W, as compared to competitors like Dell Inspiron 7767. And as this laptop is very slim, I doubt that it will control overheating. But let’s see, what will happen in both flaws. Also, I personally hope that this laptop will make it’s way in Global markets, especially in competitive markets like India. Well, what are your thoughts on this Gaming Laptop?
