Back in 2016, Xiaomi announced Mi Pay in China. This is a payment app through which users can transfer money in few taps. In December last year they started a Beta version of this app for all Miui Global Beta users in India. Seems like the app is ready for all now because Xiaomi has announced Mi Pay for everyone.
This app launched along with Redmi Go today in India. For India Xiaomi made this app based on Unified Payments Interface (UPI) to ensure safest money transfer in the country. Thought Mi Pay will be available for all Android smartphones, its deeply integrated into Miui, which means users can pay to other Miui users more quickly than other platforms. Also the payments can be made through other Miui apps such as contact and SMS apps.
Users can pay bills like gas, electricity, water, prepaid/postpaid recharge, broadband, and DTHs services. Also Mi.com will also support this very soon. It can support over 120 banks and the data will be kept securely only on Indian servers.
So that’s all the information we have as of now. Seeing the growing popularity of Xiaomi and Redmi in India, we can expect this app to give serious competition to platforms like GPay, PayTM, and BHIM. Well, what are your thoughts on Mi Pay?
