From past many months, all Indians who have a SIM card are getting messages from their telecom operator as well as from the Government of India that it is now mandatory to link the mobile number with the Adhaar card. At first Indian telecom giant, Jio started this provision of issuing SIM cards only to those who have an Adhaar card. Later on, the Government made it mandatory to link Adhaar number for all telecom operators, and it should be done by the timeline of 31st March 2018. But later the deadline got postponed by an unknown time period. Now seems like Government is making another ease for people in the same matter.
The Government of India has now issued an order that now it’s not mandatory to link mobile number only with Adhaar card. Now it can be linked with other identification documents like PAN card, Passport, Voter ID, Driving License, etc. Also, this will be applicable when buying a new SIM card/mobile number as well. They issued this order by keeping many aspects. Like those people who still don’t have Adhaar card can now link there a number with other documents as well. Those people who face problems while fingerprint scanning for Adhaar verification will also get a good benefit. It will be beneficial for NRI’s and tourists who come to India and needs to buy a SIM card here. Now they can link it with their passport.
“The ministry has issued instructions to all telecom companies, asking them not to deny a SIM card to any individual who does not have an Aadhaar number. We have asked them to accept other forms of KYC (know your customer) documents, and continue to issue SIM cards” said telecom secretary Aruna Sundararajan.
So that’s all the information we have as of now. It’s a very good move by Government for all mentioned reasons. But I personally recommend that those who haven’t made their Adhaar cards, make it on time. Well, what are your thoughts on the same? Do let us know in the comment section below.
