Back in December Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 855 SoC, which is right now present in flagships like Galaxy S10 series and many other 2019 flagships will come with this processor. Qualcomm generally adds good camera ISP into their chipset, which results in powerful image processing. Now Qualcomm has given a surprise in terms of camera ISP on this latest flagship processor.
Qualcomm has silently mentioned on their website that the ISP on Snapdragon 855 chipset can support camera resolution of up to 192MP. Woah!! A whopping 192MP resolution on a smartphone!! That’s insane. While smartphone OEMs just started to market their smartphones with 48MP sensors, Qualcomm just made this resolution very ordinary. Qualcomm didn’t hold on any event or posted on social media about this information, they just update the features of Snapdragon 855 on their website. Also, they included two features into this ISP; Multi-Frame Noise Reduction and Zero Shutter Lag.
But wait here is another surprise. Snapdragon 855 is not the only chipset to get this massive resolution, there are many others as well. Qualcomm updated the list of various new chipsets with this 192MP support. These chipsets are Snapdragon 670, 675, 710, and last year’s Snapdragon 845 as well. Now, this is something very unexpected. Qualcomm has done this type of thing previously, by suddenly giving the support of 48MP resolution on Snapdragon 660 chipset.
So that’s all the information we have as of now. Even though Qualcomm has given the support of this massive 192MP, there is no camera sensor available in the market with this much resolution. Highest is 48MP sensor by Sony and Samsung. Maybe there are chances that we will see a 192MP camera smartphone this year, and that’s why Qualcomm updated their list.
