Last month Samsung and Huawei unveiled their foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Fold, and Mate X. Both smartphones have a different type of foldable displays that’s impressive. But as always innovation has its own price, so both smartphones are very expensive than any common smartphone. Also, these smartphones will be available in limited quantity at limited countries. For those who want to use a foldable smartphone at almost half the price of Galaxy Fold, Xiaomi is here.
A new report suggests that Xiaomi will launch its foldable smartphone between the end of April to early June. It will initially launch in China first, following through other major markets also. The source claims that Xiaomi’s foldable smartphone will be priced at USD 999, which is almost half the price of the Galaxy Fold. It will also launch in Indian and European market with price tag of INR 74,999 and EUR 999 respectively. The Indian price will be almost equivalent to a base variant of Galaxy S10+. So if this leak is true, than this device will be very affordable for the tech they are offering.
Now what makes this smartphone this affordable as compared to Samsung and Huawei? While Samsung is using their own high quality OLED displays and Huawei will go for BOE displays, Xiaomi will opt for OLED displays by Visionox Technology. This is a Chinese technology brand, which makes different kind of tech. Xiaomi is funding them for R&D and Manufacturing resources as well. It would be interesting to see the comparison between high quality displays of Samsung/Huawei and Visionox made displays.
